Photo-engraved Stone Memorials

In the UK memorial stones are often composed of written inscriptions and stem from a fine tradition of hand carving. This is partly down to ecclesiastical limitations as to the sort of gravestone that can be placed in a churchyard and which tend to disallow images of people although small decorations are usually allowed. Cemeteries, crematoria and other commemorative areas and structures have far less restrictions.

In other countries there is a much wider use of images in cemeteries which give the monuments a very direct visual and personal link to the individuals, families, and loved ones commemorated there. Often these are made of enamelled metal which can corrode. Sunset Designs use the colour and strength of granite to fashion striking high contrast black and white photo-realistic images. These can be complete stones or plaques, or we can work with stone masons to produce smaller shaped tiles which can be inset into a larger memorial of a different material.
